I haven’t posted on here in a month, when usually I post at least once or twice a week. A few folks even emailed me to ask if I was OK. Yup, I’m OK. But for the last month or so I’ve been in triage mode, cutting out anything — including taking on new clients or blog posting — not directly related to deals in process. Coming in to October, I had 11 deals in process, which is almost double the usual 6 or so I have in the pipeline — and most of those deals have had more ‘moving parts’ than usual. I’ve arranged more underground oil tank tests in the last two months than in the past two years, for example.
I also took a short vacation to Europe, which usually isn’t a problem because the three of us at Catskills Buyer Agency coordinate our vacations so there’s always someone here to handle any ‘boots on the ground’ tasks. This month, though, both of my colleagues have been out for personal emergencies, so I haven’t had my usual backup. Colleagues in the business here have been great, offering to pitch in and help out where they can. I came pretty close to canceling the trip, but with a laptop, phone and internet connection, you can work from anywhere these days. Still, October has been a challenge, which is why I haven’t taken on any new clients for a month.
I expect to be back in the groove in the next week or two. I still have 8 deals in the pipeline (3 of the 11 closed in the past few weeks), and 3 of those are close to closing — so by mid November the number of deals in progress will be a more manageable 5 or 6. My two colleagues should be coming back online in the next few weeks, as well. So I should have more time to start blogging and opinionating again soon.
P.S. My quick week trip to Budapest and Milan was FABULOUS!
