Every summer, classical music lovers here eagerly anticipate the opening of the Shandelee Music Festival, a music lover’s jewel in Sullivan County. The Shandelee Music Festival brings together young classical musicians and a group of master teachers for a few weeks on a mountain estate southwest of Livingston Manor. During the day, the musicians and teachers have classes, rehearse and practice, and in the evenings give a series of concerts. The concerts are presented in an intimate, purpose built space on the estate, and afterwards everybody gathers on the verandah for coffee and cake. It’s a very special way to experience some very good classical music, and attending at least one concert there should be on the summer calendar of any classical music lover in the area. The next concert is this Thursday, Aug. 13th and the final concert is August 24th.
