Finding a cute getaway on a few acres on a quiet country road here in the low $100's can be a huge challenge. So when this house hit the MLS last week, it caught my eye. But given the price — $129,000 — I didn't want to blog about it until I actually saw it. My colleague, Kathy Rieser, and i stopped by yesterday and were very pleasantly surprised. We were sort of expecting a run down rehab (it kind of looks like that from the photo, because the exterior is overdue for restaining), but it isn't at all.
The house is on 2.65 acres on a nice country road between Jeffersonville and Callicoon Center. It's not totally private; there's a house across the road, but the area behind the house feels quite private. It has some charming bits, and could be a lot more charming with some creative effort — like a front porch, a new front door (the house is screaming for a red front door with red trim) and some shutters. There's some deferred maintenance and repairs needed. The whole house needs to be repainted or restained, and there's some water in the basement that will need attention. And some nice landscaping would really spruce it up.
For a buyer who has a little extra cash and wants to do some work, this could be a great one. Click here to check out the listing.
