It seems like it's been years since we have such a long and deep cold spell. Last year it was so warm through most of the winter, that some of our lakes barely froze over. Not this year. The cold makes showing real estate here pretty challenging. The big reason is that a lot of unoccupied homes (second homes and homes where the owners have already moved out) have been drained and left unheated.
One quirk about unheated houses in the winter is that they can be colder inside than outside. The credit for that goes to insulation. A few hours of sun doesn't heat them up very much.
Apart from the cold, it's been pretty good weather for showings. We don't have a lot of snow on the ground, so there aren't big snow berms at the end of driveways or deep snow to trudge through. And there isn't much of the winter arch enemy, ice. So it's pretty easy to move around, as long as everyone is prepared for the cold.
But still, I'm hoping for a warm spell. Right now, thirty degrees is looking practically balmy!
